I'd like to suggest a book, The Abyss of Madness by George E. Atwood. It's about new research to treat patients with severe psychological issues, in a humanitarian way. It also looks at the root causes of some disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. You can find a pdf of the first 4 chapters online for free I believe. I highly suggest reading it.
